Michaela is an artist living and working in Munich and also based in Hamburg. Her work encompasses an eclectic range of themes, foci and motifs, with a driving structure of systemic relevance repeatedly playing a unique role in her work. Her creative genesis surrounds imagery that is found at the nexus of sociopolitical impulses and her own subjective experiences with the sense of place and its relationship to time revealing themselves at specific moments. Michaela´s intimate pursuit of integrity is felt in her work
which grapples with personal identity and its relationality. This notion of identity is expanded into the realm of the family in her photographic series
which thematises her generation and contrasts it against the traditional practices and culture of peat extraction performed by her family. The notion of Home is dealt with again in the work
which holds in relation the urban exterior with the intimate interior of a person in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. This multiformat art book explores paper as a medium and serves as a vivid examination of interior and exterior spaces and the complex longing of ‘Home’. Place is further addressed in the editorial design project
that depicts the transformative practices of urban society and its diverse subcultures through an exploration of typographically rhizomatic structure constructed from visual material collected over a decade.

An introspective treatment of modern society can be seen in
, which presents a subject  faced with the predicament of overwhelm from losing a mobile phone, presented in a monologic essay film.
Michaela expands her focus on Place to that of Nature, its care and sustainability. The analogue photographic series plays with the hue and saturation of a lakeside scene on a balmy summer's day.
Michaela also chooses the photographic medium to address time in
, an in-progress work that handles the felt sense of chronology and the relationship between today and yesterday. The broader themes of Leadership and Climate Justice are manifest in the project Blackbox Natur, which adopts an experimental spatial concert format, for which Michaela was conceptually responsible.

Michaela also works in collaboration with children to develop sustainable knowledge for an enlightened future in workshops in educational institutions such as primary schools in Hamburg and initiatives such as Harburg blüht. An exemplar of these collaborations is the Michaela´s Leaf Stamping workshop; a program that runs from March to October in particular and provides children with a practiced understanding of seasonal meadow herbs through the design of their own postcards.
